So, a few weeks ago, I started building a guitar.
And now, it is almost done.

That is colour coat #3, 2 more to go, then a bunch of clear coats, then I have myself a new axe.

Bow down to my mediocre woodworking skills!

That's a pretty cool shape. Is it just gonna be plain red or what?

That's cool. Is it routed and all that jazz? It's got a nice finish on it so far. Post more as you do more.

Could you come and put a new countertop and sink in my kitchen when you're done? I'm about ready to tackle that myself.

So you are really more than just a pretty face.

Yeah, thats what I reckon.

Hah, yeah, its routed. I would not recommend me for countertops, or anything that... matters. I would screw it up.  Cool

I have a Bigsby Vibrato tailpiece and a Schaller roller tuneomatic for it, necks done, and for now I'm using a pair of Ibanez humbuckers I had around, although later I think I'm gonna get Jazzmaster pickups or P90s for it, I have a bunch of extra pickguard material, so I can use pretty much any pickup combo I like.

How did you come up with that particular shape for the body?

I had a big sheet of grid paper, I marked off a rectangle I wanted the body shape to stay within, drew a neck pocket in the middle, and just started drawing. It was sort of random. I was watching a movie and just started going and came up with that the first time around.

Should look awesome with the bigsby. I was thinking it might look kinda weird being a strange shape and having just a big expanse of red at one end, but the bigsby should take care of that...

Yeah. I wired the scratchplate today, it's all done and shielded, and it works too, added bonus I guess. I'm nearly done the colour coats, except for this one spot on the left upper bout, it looks gruesome because of some paint globbage.

She's done. Check it out.

The slide switches switch the pickups between series and paralell, the lever is just a basic selector, voume and tone are self explanitory.

That is a really cool body shape, but is it comfortable to play while sitting?

Yeah, it works fine for sitting, for me anyway. I have no issues.

One of the things I like most about it is it's easy to lean up against a wall without it falling over, hah.

Well the thing to remember about the wiring is that in the true sense, they aren't humbuckers.

Originally they were Ibanez 'buckers with 3 leads, what I did was cut the pickup open and seperate the two coils so that rather than a humbucker, the pickup becomes a pair of low output single coils. The switching allows the two single coils to be moved from series to paralell and back, to allow you to get single coil sound, or something CLOSER to a humbucker but not quite.

In reality, it's a guitar with 4 singles.

Cool its been a while for me and "terminal wiring experiments"..But I get the impedence shift altering the output characteristics.. I miss doing things like this...Im jealous.... And hungry for red guitars, three chords and the truth..
