I recently found out that the Flu medication Tamiflu contains an extract of star anise. Star anise is a star shaped spice from Asia that is used in asian cooking. It is used in vietnamese beef pho. I'll post some information I found about this spice:

Recently amidst the big scare of Swine Flu world wide, Star Anise, a traditional tasty spice has hit the news and drew attention of both scientists and media alike. This article throws light on Swine flu, it`s symptoms, prevention and cure and the various uses of Star Anise.

I'd heard last winter that star anise might have some type of effect on swine flu, but all the cases I've heard of the biggest trouble from it has been upper respiratory. This article from last May says intestinal. Try to find a more current article. There's vaccines out now and from what this article says there wasn't at that time.

I will mention that a VA doc said that breast fed babies born before 1960 are less apt to get it.
