"Basic Granola"

3 cups old fashioned oats
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 stick melted margarine or butter
1/4 cup honey

Melt the margarine and add everything but the oats. Stir it over medium heat until the brown sugar isn't gritty. Remove from the stove and combine the oats with it and stir until well mixed. Put on a baking sheet and toast it for about 20 minutes at 350 F. approximately. Don't overcook it or it will have a slight burnt taste. My first batch turned out that way so I didn't leave it in as long, but I ate it anyway. Stir it occasionally while it's baking.

If I was to add dried fruit or nuts I'd add them the last few minutes of baking otherwise they dry out too much. I just add them later as I want it. It's good served with milk, on ice cream or yogurt, by the handful, on regular cooked oats, or however. My last batch lasted about a month.

Is this a gluten free grenola bar?

I've been switching to a gluten free diet to help my skin condition. It seems to be working. I have some gluten free brownie mix that I want to whip up one of these days.

Good question! The only thing that would have glutens would be the oats I'd think and I don't know if it does or not. I found this link that might help. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/669469

I had a friend diagnosed with celiac when it was in it's very early research stages. She would get rashes from glutens. Maybe you have the sensitivity, too?
