I have a huge audition coming up.  If I get accepted I will be joining the Air Force Enlisted Heritage Band and I'll be getting paid to do what I love.  I am pretty confident even though I don't know what they will want me to play/do for the audition yet.  I'm just curious what others have done to prepare for a big audition or band tryout?

Have you researched and familiarized yourself with the type of stuff they do? Maybe talk to someone who's in the group now. I think my husband's boss was in the Air Force Band, but I don't know if it's like the one you're trying out for.

Whichever suits! Good luck or break a leg! Keep us up to date on what's happening. It sounds great.

I got a hold of the auditioning director.  The news wasn't good.  He hasn't done an audition for guitar in around 3 years.  Apparently they are stacked with guitarists presently.  The normal base has 3 guitarists and mine has 4 at the moment.  The only good thing is that the military is constantly changing on short notice.  Hopefully sometime soon in the future they will have a need for them.  The director told me that I should get with his boss and talk to him about getting lessons.  It couldn't hurt and it would be a good thing to have a friend over there that knows about me.  I'm going to keep bothering them that way if any future opurtunnities come up I will be the first one they call.  I talked to the boss today about lessons and he said he was really flexible and that wouldn't be a problem.  After I talked to him we picked up the guitars for about 15-20 minutes so he could guage my skill level.  The guy was pretty good but I was able to follow him.  I did learn a few things in just that short of time, mostly the legitimate names of chords and stuff that I already knew.  I realized that I need to upgrade my metronome.  I will keep you guys posted about what happens with this subject.

Cool! Tell him he needs another group or 2 so they can play more gigs at the same time in different places like Blue Man Group does.
