I thought it was a feminest song.  Maybe colleen was her highschool sweetheart?  Is it a common thing nowadays for a friend to let you watch them bang?  It's a pretty out there song.  If you want to get better at fingerpicking like they do in this song try looking up Landslide (stevie nicks) or blackbird (beatles).  Talking about all this fingerpicking makes me want to break out my classical.  I love the feeling of nylon strings rolling off my fingertips.

Yeah, the lyrics kind of confused me at first, too, but I think it's just the idea that Colleen was such an extrovert from the time they were young that the friend was just there for whatever she did except when Jack came along. Then it was sorry, honey, he's mine. She finally stood up to her. She also accepted Colleen warts and all through their lives even though she didn't march to the same drummer so she didn't get caught up in the struggles for love. Even though Colleen appeared self reliant she was really a messed up kid all her life.
