This beat is bananas

Has anyone ever painted their gutiar(s)?  After seeing a cool crackle design today at the music shop I am wanting to paint one of my guitars similarly.  The one that I saw was black with gold crackle.  I thought it would be cool to do one gray with flourescent orange crackle similar to lava.  Sure enough after searching online I found a guitar with a lava paint job.

I am kinda bummed that it has been done before but either way it would still be fun to do and look cool as hell when I get finished.  Post pics of custom paint jobs and give me some tips.

So I got my epi all broken down and beginning the sanding... this has to be the worst part of it.  I only have medium grit at the moment.  I might make a run tonight to get some heavy stuff to get the clear coat off.

Crackle's fun to play with. Be sure and post pictures when you're in process or finished. I haven't used it on wood, but I've done it on ceramic before and it's fun to watch.

So I went over to my buds today to do some work on it.  He has a finishing sander and I was able to sand it down enough to paint.  I didn't put any primer on it and just left the black (now grayish) on, partly because I'm lazy and didn't want to rake out the cash for it.  It actually turned out for the better because instead of being solid flourescent orange it's kinda fadey... I'll post some pics of it tomorrow if I can.
