Anyone know if a good book about music theory (NOT A TEXTBOOK)?

I want to sharpen my theory, but I don't feel like going to the internet every time I want to do something like the circle of fifths.

I'd rather have it in something I can take with me

Fretboard logic, give 'em look at. I think that they have 'em on Amazon.com. If not, I know that Musicians friend carries them, that's where I got mine.

I know you asked for something that is not a textbook, but this is what my 4 semesters of music theory were based off of. It really is part work book, because it has a lot of blank staff paper where you can work out everything.

There are a lot of free primers and tutorials on the web.

Is there something more specific you want to learn about?

wouldnt it be easier to collect articles off the net, print them and file them? Something appendable is probably desirable.

Guitar Grimorie

I've been meaning to get it, because it's extremely useful. I'm sure you can recognize notes by ear at least a little, and the circle of fifths is pretty !#@!ing simple once you get it down.

I'd go for a textbook from Amazon.  It depends on what you want music theory for.  Most internet stuff will tell you about scale structure, chord structure, and the circle of fifths, but textbooks will give you info on tendency tones, augmented sixth chords, and a host of other things that may not be that useful for guitar (such as the ever-popular four-part Bach chorale writing chapter).
