Also, fast tempos are great, but do you know how much concentration it takes to play at tempos below like 50 beats per minute? You can really work on consistency when you go down to those kinds of tempos, especially if you count in your head along to what you're playing.

Yes I do.  I always start off practicing slow.  If you don't you'll be able to play somewhat fast but it'll be sloppy as shit.  That's one of the first rules I have read about training with a metronome on numerous websites.

How do they define 'slow'?  I started around 100 bpm

Try playing consistent quarter notes at the slowest your metronome can go, you'll learn a whole lot about what steady time really is.

I always play 16th notes on the metronome when I'm practising. I've got this little digital tuner/metronome and I suspect it screws up at places. I start around 60 and am reasonably comfortable on the acoustic at 110bpm.

I'm not great with time and I tend to screw up on the slower beats. I cannot play at less than 40 bpm to save my life. I should've gotten one a little earlier...like maybe 4 years ago Sad

My alt. picking routine involves me playing the G Major scale at 8th/16th notes (Depending on my mood) starting at 80 bpm, and upping it by 5 bpm every time until I'm at 120 bpm(Which is still extremely diffcult to play correctly). It's awesome because I have it modeled like this so that I play 2 notes per string on the Low E, B and High E, and three notes per string on the A,D and G string.

I think twad' just doesn't yet have good time.
Or he's the same as me and prefers playing to an actual beat rather than just clicking.

^That's the puppy.

My timing's okay, I guess. I've never really done a lot of training with it.

There's your definition for you.
