Aria? Why would you buy one?
I didn't even know Rickenbacker made amps...
Bass or guitar? Either way, make sure you buy and Ibanez amp.

No idea why he's asking in this forum, but his question appears to be about basses...

Oh okay.
Buy a Marshall bass amp or an Ibanez bass amp. Not an Ampeg though, they suck.

What kind of sound do you want? Rickenbackers tend to have a very unique sound. Very trebley and punchy. If you want smooth, solid basslines, then a ricky probably isn't for you.

That's hardly true, Ricks can do so much more than the Geddy/Squire tone.

They can, but they can never get rid of the sound restrictions inherent in their design. Rickys will always have that distinct treble bite. Sure, they can get some good smooth sounds, but you won't really ever get that silky-smooth low end that a warwick will. I mean, hell, Mark Sandman in Morphine got some pretty smooth sounds out of his 2-string bass that uses a Ricky's design, but you can still hear the treble bite.

Hah, Enter Sandman.
Rickenbackers have their distinctive character, but with the right set of hands and ears you could hardly call it a restriction.

It is a restriction. But every instrument has its own restrictions, because every instrument is built different ways, different things create different sounds, and there's no way to build an instrument so it has all those sounds. That's why there's no universal bass or universal guitar. Rickys are no more restrictive than any other instrument, and I never said that they are. Their tone IS, however, one of the less common (in most modern music) yet more recognizable tones.
