After browsing this forum for a little while, I have found a home.  I have a quick question to do with home recording.  Well, I am a bass player in a 3 piece band, I use an Apple MacBook.  I want to record at good quality.  In the past I've used Garageband, bad idea, the bass becomes a low distorted fuzz and the drums drain out everything.

I am looking into getting a mixing board, but I am unsure about getting one.  When recording, I want to record the bass and guitars on seperate tracks, a lot of mixing boards do that, but I don't know how to use one.  I want to plug my amp into the recording device, instead of directly plugging the bass/guitar into it (I also don't want to put a microphone next to the amp to record it, I want to pick up JUST the sound of the bass and it's effects, no talking, movement or buzzing of fans that might pick up on recording).  Is this possible?  The reason I want to do this is to get all the effects of my amp and pedal before adding any other effects into it afterwards instead of just plain direct bass sound, and I want to get the tone of the amp.

Get a digital 8 track.

This is true, but you really need a good mixing board to get put a good sound into the 8 track. There really is no way to make a recording sound good if you didn't try to get it to sound good in the first place.

I've seen some digital 8 tracks, I am not sure if I can plug my amp into them. Also, I want one that's not too expensive.
