I was with my friend, Adam, at this party last year, and he was doing some Pantera riffs, and just dicking around, when some kid walks up and says "Uhh...Can you play something good?"

So he played Scarified by Racer X. (Unfortunately, it was a little sloppy, but hey, you wouldn't know if you didn't listen to Paul Gilbert)

So he didn't honor the kid's request?

Paul Gilbert is awesome, and you suck dick for bus fare, then walk.

If you were being serious...I guess not.

Maybe you shouldn't have tried to fit that first line into one sentence.

I'm not a big fan of Gilbert. However, I would be impressed if I saw some nobody playing that fast in person.

To play it cleanly, he can go about 3/4 the speed of Gilbert. He's 23, and he's been playing since he was 8. One of those guys who actually played guitar for about 6 hours a day, even when we were all out getting hammered. Plus, he got lessons from Jeff Waters (Annihilator) for two or three years.

I had this earlier when Nat asked me to play her stuff. I proceeded to forget most of what I know. It got worse when I attempted to play and sing as I then forgot lots of words, including to songs I'd written myself... Undecided

Yeah...I get crappy when I drink too much, but after smoking? Forget about it. I can write really good shit, but I can't play it well at all, so it takes me an hour or so to come up with a riff that would usually take a few minutes, tops.

Nah, I was completely sober. I just reckon it was the "argh, girl I like!" factor...

See...My natural showmanship floats to the top in those situations. Usually, when I'm by myself or jamming with a friend, and I !#@! something up, I have to go back and redo it. When looking to impress, I just go "!#@! it" and keep going like it never happened.

I can actually play Master Of Puppets proficiently if I think it will get me free booze or action.

I played for Carolyn a year or two back, and I was fine. I get into it, when Naomi came to see one of her shows, I had to ignore her while I was playing...when I was thinking "Shit, she's here and looks hot!" I got close to messing up my own songs. All in all, when you nail the solo to So What, it gets you women. That's what I've learned.

I hate when people only want me to play something that they'd recognize.

It's why 90% of people I knew who said they played 'a bit' could only play Green Day's 'Good Riddance'

I don't think any Metallica songs would get you action. Maybe some Pig Destroyer would be better.
