So, at some point in the future I want to rewire my SG.

I started with this schematic from Stew Mac:

I disconnected one pick-up (as I don't use my neck pick-up, it's just there to fill the hole) so the three-way switch now works as a killswitch. I also added a second "tone" control connected the same way, but replacing the capacitor with the black ice overdrive circuit. I came up with this:

So, a couple of questions really: 1) Will this circuit work? 2) Any thoughts on values for pots/capacitor (I'm considering 1k pots)? 3) Anything else interesting I could add in that's cheap? (One idea is this) 4) Anything I could use in the hole I'll have left over from the fact my SG came with 4 pots and this circuit has 3?

Do you get funky sounds when you use the killswitch (ala Tom Morello) or does it just produce no sound?

I'm pretty sure the name KILLswitch says it all...because there is nothing coming from the rhythm pickup, it kills the signal, but Tom Morello does use it rapidly to stop and start his guitar sound.

I'm not sure Andy, I'm a tard when it comes to circuitry.

Yeh, the killswitch just turns the sound off. I use it for stopping feedback, etc when I'm not playing, but you can use it for stuttering sounds the way Tom Morello/John 5/Buckethead do...

The wiring looks good to me, though I've never actually done any guitar electronic work in practice, just in theory. If you get anything wrong trial and error won't hurt too much as long as you give your connections a clean cut. As for the left over hole, I'd just get a pickguard with only the 3 holes, but I don't know if that's an option for you. Just don't try wood putty, that shit looks horrible.

Yeh, the pickguard doesn't go anywhere near the control pots on an SG and the wood's only 5mm thick at most, so there's really no way to fill it...

Well, if you don't want to leave an empty hole put a proxy knob in.

That was the back-up plan, just wondered if there was anything interesting I could do...

Can't see anything wrong with it but I wouldn't expect fantastic results. It's pretty basic. I'd leave the original cap in too.
