The new track sounds pretty cool.

Personally, I hope you direct your band towards more post-rock/ambient/experimental stuff.

I just learnt all of pete huttlinger's solo version of superstition. by learnt i mean now i can play it through without looking at the tab, although, as you will hear, nowhere near perfectly or smoothly yet Cheesy and by 'all', i mean 'most' i haven't learnt the fast licks towards the end. excuse the awful sound quality too, it was recorded through a (cheap) bass amp and a (cheap) webcam mic. good stuff.

but really, i just want to see what you guys think, and where i need to focus on. i know my timing is a bit out (even when i can remember the notes quick enough), probably should play more with a metronome. and obviously, i haven't got it all down yet.

have a listen, http://download.yousendit.com/3BA1F86201D237D5

I think you just need to clean up your playing overall. It's muddled here and there, but that's often personal preference. The timing gets off in several places like for those trills as well. Sometimes it seems like you seem like you forgot the notes, or are lost, and not in a cool Monk sort of way heh.

However, the note accuracy can obviously be overcome with a little bit more practice, but the lack of consistent rhythm "amplifies" all your mistakes. Having a good sense of rhythm, especially in this track, is like a safety net in case you !#@! up the notes. Whether it's improv or not. Of course, this might not work so well in classical music where pretty much everything has to be perfect.

You need some rhythm, white boy.

I'm not one to talk actually. I take forever recording to a click track sometimes.

it's weird, as this song obviously relies on you having good rhythm, but because it kinda has two parts being played at once, the way my brain works is not to play it based on the song i know, but to learn how certain bits of the song sound together, so in my head i don't really hear the actual song, so am not playing 'with feel', just trying to remember which not goes where. it's hard to explain.

i generally have good rhythm with most stuff, but am awful sloppy, and like you say, it does cover up to an extent. also, when i play it with a pick, i get some rhythm back, but of course can't do all the fingerpicking shit, so it only really sounds good the first part.

there's no way i could do classical stuff properly, i !#@! up way too often. and the thing is, when i !#@! up, i end up getting completely lost. i was quite surprised i managed to remember the whole thing in only 2 takes (i use the word 'remember' lightly) Cheesy  there was a combination of stage (microphone) fright and me not really knowing it properly which kinda stiffened me up. obviously, this is a new song i've learnt, so the accuarcy should improve. the hard part will be overcoming the nerves and being able to relax a bit.

i will rerecord this in about a year when i have it down smooth. then, all i have to blame is my whiteness. Cheesy

Then it sounds like you're just not familiar with the song enough yet. An easily resolvable issue. One of my guitar teachers used to say that speed comes with familiarity, but I'm sure it's not limited to only speed.

Yea that's the problem with classical music. I heard a story about how even Paco de Lucia had to stop the entire orchestra and start over several times because he !#@!ed up at some spot and couldn't get back in place. He was playing Concierto de Aranjuez by Rodrigo. That's right even Paco de !#@!ing Lucia.

There's a lot of trash talking in here with no postings.  I'll come through later and delete all the trash talk threads.  Only post comments on others work or post your own work, don't tell us how great of a guitar player you are.
