Umm... Dragonetti?

Aha yes, he was truly a master of the Double Bass. Rumor has it that one night he was playing at a hotel out on a balcony and guests in other rooms asked the next morning about the thunderstorm.

I'd have to say Wooten.  I'm not a huge Bela Fleck fan, but Victor can sure play the hell out of the electric bass.  The amount of technique he utilizes to create his sound is just... amazing.

The guy is definetly virtuositic. Check out Michael Manring if you're into Jazzy stuff.

Can't forget Paul McCartney.  His solo stuff is lame, but he wrote some of the most killer basslines ever with The Beatles.  And of course the lesser known, Ron Wood.  He used to play guitar for the Stones (!#@! the Stones) but before that he played bass for Jeff Beck's "Truth" group, with Rod Stewart singing.  The best stuff Rod Stewart has ever done.  And Ronnie Wood will blow your mind!!!

Those guys aren't bassists, they're guitarists too drunk to shred. So they give 'em a bass.
