Need help with amp

I have a 10 watt amp that has knob that say Gain, Volume, and Tone. There is a button that says override and that puts the gain into effect. My question is how can I get the sound of a heavy guitar? I'm trying to make a sound like good charllotte's put to no use. Can someone help me?

buy a new amp (more power)and an effects pedal digitech,zoom or whatever and run it through a clean channel
