Heres the deal.    Right now I own a Marshall JCM900 High Gain Duel Reverb 50watt tube head, and a Mesa Boogie studio .22 cal preamp with a 200watt power amp behind it.

I switch between heads depending on my music style at the time.  Its always either Weezer type stuff, or metal with a lot of pinch harmoncs.

I was thinkning of either going for a Peavey 5150II head or a Marshall JCM2000 TSL or DSL 100 watt head.

Anyone have any suggestions on the matter?

Peavey is more of a standard classic rock unit but Marshall is good for every thing. If you use your oun amps for gig's Marshall is the way to go.  Cool

I would suggest micing a smaller higher quality amp.

You'll have more useable distortion when you want it, and more vibrant cleans

my mate plays in a band called severity.
he should be playing with people
that are 20 years older than him, because he is an INSANE
guitarist.
and the band his in, they won battle of the bands at a local metal show
against people 3 times his age
he plays thru a Tsl100
and does alot of crazy solos with arpeggios and goes all the way up and down the fretboard
including pnch harmonics,
he says that the tsl100 is an average amp for metal
and wants to get a peavey 5150 or the next model up, 61 watever
forgot wat it is.
but
just go to the shop and try it out.

I like the Classic 30 by Peavey , all tube 30 watt combo... very bluesy amp... Marshall JCM 800 was pretty much industry standard in the studio and live in the 90's. Marshall tube amps are great for those seeking lots of midrange... I dislike most solid state amps so i'm a little biased.

I love Marshall, nothing else can really give me that roar that I'm after. Like -G said, it's brimming with midrange which I love.

JCM800s are probably the best way to go, but I've heard a lot of good things about the new JVM line.

Peavey wise, you're probably looking at getting an original 5150, or if you can't get one of those try and find a 6505.
