if you can't get a controlled substance, then you are stuck with orajel (very temporary), vicodin, or take 1 acetaminophen (Tylenol) and 1 ibuprofen (Advil) at the same time. The combination works better than 2 of the same.
Whether its days, weeks, or months, the pain will return so go to the dentist and get it dealt with before you need a root canal. I've had 3 of them. They suck and cost serious money (in America) even if you have a reasonable dental plan.
Also, if you aren't sensitive to warm water, wash your mouth out with warm salt water. It will help.
And if you are really desperate, you can go to the hospital emergency room and get a shot in the ass (narcotics) that might cost you a small fortune but you will immediately feel better and they will write you a prescription for something good.

hehe, ive done it all bar the emergency room
. i already need the root canal and am getting it on tuesday.
ive decided either i am as unnafected by pain releivers as i previously thought or this is just too bad for pain releivers. i took the demerol last night despite my tooth not hurting as bad as it did the other night, it did hurt though, and it pretty much had no affect. i got drowzy for about 20 minutes, all the time with no pain going away whatsoever, and then it wore off.
after all the stories my family had told me about demerol, talk about a dissapointment. my sister was shocked they gave me something that strong, my mom said it would put me in "la la land", dad says "dont take it all. save some for me, thats good stuff" then when i take it, pretty much no affect.

Demerol should have worked. You must need Dilaudid or Morphine.

thats the thign though, vicodin works. albeit i need alot of it for it to work when the pain is bad, but the demerol had possibly no affect at all on me. i was drowsy for about 20 minutes but since ive been medicated for a while ive been drowsy alot, and it was about 1:30 in the morning. it should have knocked me on my ass.

Different people have different pain levels. That's good that you're getting it taken care of. fingers is right about the cost. I can't get anything else done with mine til next year so I'm hoping the abcess I've had for over 2 years now near a chipped tooth doesn't get crazy before then. It's a back tooth so I think I'm just going to get it yanked if that's the only one affected. I had a root canal on the other side and they also had to fill a couple other teeth that they didn't think they would. It was a couple thousand for that. Thank goodness most was covered by insurance, but not all of it.
Salt water is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that.

Better see a dentist if you're experiencing problems on your teeth. I would have to agree that "every individual have different pain levels." Some pain killers might just work for me effectively, but not for you. So, the best solution here is that go and see a dental expert before an oral problem worsen.
