That's just when you talk to me. HEY YOUR PHONE IS RINGING!!!!!heheh
Okay, the dentist said I might have tmj cuz my jaw has popped for a lot of years. She said that they put something on you at first to push the lower jaw back to let that area alighn better SOOOOO instead of going through all that I started doing it myslef when I was awake and thought of it. It seems to be a bit better. I even told her what I was doing. She said it was like self medication. It doesn't bug me much but sometimes it does when I have a headache. They're tension though so that's another ballgame.
The doc said the only way a person can tell if they have tmj is to be xrayed. Frankly, I don't think I want to gothrough all the crap necessary to realign things after I've lived with this 30 years.
You might try changing your pillow. Your head placement in the sleeping position might be better with a different firmness and that's loads cheaper.

when i eat crusty bread on the right side of my mouth, my mouth/jaw clicks and it hurts, so i don't eat it.
On the right side.
Just on the left, funnily enough I have no other sides to eat it on.

what's tmj?
The abbreviation stands for Temporomandibular Joint (disease or disorder).
Quote
Temporomandibular joint diseases and disorders, commonly called TMJ, are a collection of poorly understood conditions characterized by pain in the jaw and surrounding tissues and limitations in jaw movements. Injury and conditions that routinely affect other joints in the body, such as Arthritis, also affect the temporomandibular joint. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) states that over 10 million people in the United States suffer from TMJ problems at any given time. While both men and women experience TMJ problems, the majority of those seeking treatment are women in their childbearing years.

and of all the bad habits i have, grinding my teeth is not one of them. I do find myself clenching my teeth quite a bit tho
Both will give you a jaw ache, and when you're asleep you're obviously completely unaware you're doing it. I had headaches and a sore jaw for about 6 months until I went to my dentist for a checkup, and she was like "You have completely worn down your molars from grinding your teeth" and I was like uhhhh I don't grind them consciously, but I do clench them when I am thinking. So she said I may have been grinding them in my sleep because the enamel was wearing away. So she gave me a mouthguard thing (mmmm) to wear while I slept and 3 months later I went back and the enamel was the same so that was the solution. Then I stopped being stressy, my hormones evened out or something, and I didn't need it anymore.
So yeah, pretty much all they do is give you a mouthguard. Maybe try sleeping with a small mouthguard in and see how you feel? They are horrible to sleep with though, and the drool collection is... well, it's disgusting.

i pretty much cut out to go home and to the dentist immediately after i posted this. my mom got me an appointment. i need a root canal. right now im taking amoxicilan for the infection and vicodin for the pain. im going back tomarrow to see if i can get a better painkiller though. the vicodin 750's just arent enough at night. hell there not really enough at all. as soon as the pain hits the effect that they have goes away completely. i might try some of that orajell for when i go to bed though.
one thing ive found is if i brush the tooth that is bad with just water and a tooth brush it sometimes helps alot. also off of another internet site i dug up saltwater is supposed to help. i tried this and if you let it sit on your tooth for a while it can help alot. unfortunately its very temporary. sometimes it would set it to the edge where it would be ok for a while though.
@nicklz - its my soretooth damnit

well, after todays visit to the dentis i got new pain medication for at night. since the vicodin wasnt strong enough before, i now have demerol. apparently this is good shit, i might not need it now though. it seems based on my current condition i may be actually getting better.

Yes, demerol is good stuff!! It is a narcotic analgesic, (pain killer). It's habit forming, so don't get TOO use to it!!
Have you actually had the root-canal yet? It should heal pretty quickly once you've had it. Watch out for any signs of infection, and get back to the dentist and on an antibiotic if it does become infected. (Ask my wife how she knows about that one...
)
And how many points do I get for calling the root-canal in the 3rd post?

calling the root canal was pretty impressive. im actually on antibiotics right now, i got them on the first visit along with the vicodin. im not planning on getting used to the demerol. i might actually not even use it. my tooth doesnt seem too bad right now, but the vicodin is just, and i mean just, starting to wear off from earlier today. if it gets much worse though i will be taking a demerol to help me sleep. gonna wait it out till midnight (the time im actually supposed to wait till so that the vicodin officially has worn off) to see if the pain gets very bad.
on the root canal, no i havnt had it yet. i get that on tuesday. i must have an infection or they're making sure its cleared up incase i do before hand with the antibiotics. those first two days were hell but today wasnt that bad so im assuming an infection was there and the antibiotics are clearing it up. im hoping to get back up to college to get my homework tomarrow. thats the dissapointing thing though. its like i had a mini vacation from college and homework except it completely sucked and now i have to catch up with work. oh well, should really only be for one class anyway so it might not be too bad. seem to grasp statics fairly well anyway.
